Delta Gems serves teenage females, ages 14-18. GEMS was created to foster the success of the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy program by continuing to provide educational and cultural enrichment to the young ladies throughout high school. Delta GEMS was designed to provide an opportunity for youth to interact with positive role models and thereby develop long-term mentoring relationships and skills to counteract many of the negative aspects of our society. The young ladies participate in developmental programs and activities that are geared towards enhancing their knowledge and education regarding health issues, personal growth, career and job training.
The primary goal and mission of the program is to prepare teenage girls for the challenges of the future by helping them reach their highest potential and to assist the young ladies in functioning intellectually, socially, and emotionally in society. The program provides cultural and educational enrichment through activities and workshops focused on Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service.
