Trish Harleston

As a member of the Durham Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., Trish Harleston serves faithfully as South Atlantic Regional (SAR) Chaplain and Chair of the Chaplain’s Council. Throughout this time, she has served as an example of sisterly support and love to sorors, through reaching out and offering prayers to sorors and their families. She initiated the Monthly Manna Devotional Call to engage Sorors in the region in a monthly Inspirational word and prayer. She was instrumental in the coordination of the SAR Community Prayer Breakfast in both NC and VA. In addition, she coordinated the team of Chaplains participating in the 2019 State Meeting Cycle to plan and conduct the “Keeping Christ in the Sisterhood” Workshops.

In the area of community service and sisterhood, Trish is recognized throughout the region as host of the Liquidated Ladies Conferences which has impacted the lives of over 1000 women in recent years through offering development opportunities through training, workshops and through counseling. In addition, she has been instrumental in assisting local students with their education through scholarships bearing her name (over $4000 to date). The scholarships award students for their community involvement, public service and academic excellence. Trish has received numerous community awards for her work in impacting the lives of others.

She has received several awards in ministry and in community service, most notably including a 2016 recipient of the Spectacular Magazine Woman of the Year for Community Service; Who’s Who in Black Raleigh and Durham as a Spiritual Leader; a 2017 recipient of the Druecillar Fordham Award in Pastoral Excellence by the Wayland Baptist Theological Seminary and the Dissertation of Literary Excellence Award for her doctoral research work. She was also awarded the 2017 Merrick Fisher Spaulding Award for Public Service by the Durham alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In 2019, Trish received the Community Leadership Award with Durham Chapter of the Charms.

In addition to serving as preacher, teacher, conference speaker and public servant, Rev. Harleston is a published author of three publications: Monti’s Story; Love Lifted Me, Embracing the gift of Grace, and a Devotional and Prayer Journal entitled Weekly Word for your Daily Walk. She is also a Contributing Author for a newly released publication. As an author, she has been featured with the Delta Authors on Tour in both NC and SC, and an invited author in the Author’s Pavilion in Houston, TX and was a featured author and presenter in the Christian Book Lovers Retreat. She is a cast member in the award-winning gospel stage play, Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child. As an inspirational blogger for the past 8 years, Rev. Harleston authors a weekly message via social media distribution.

Trish Harleston has not only exhibited sisterhood, leadership, and mentorship during this biennium, but she has consistently served DST and the Durham Community as a community servant, spiritual mentor and a leader among women. Trish is married to Charles Harleston and the mother of 2 adult children and "Mimi" to 2 grandchildren.
